Komodo Cruise from Labuan Bajo: Departures & Pickup

Komodo Cruise from Labuan Bajo: Departures & Pickup

A Komodo cruise from Labuan Bajo starts with a pickup from your hotel or Komodo Airport, usually 08:00 for the weekday open trip and 09:00 for the standard 3D2N, before boarding in the harbour area. As of 2026, Komodo Luxury prices shared 3D2N cabins from USD 300 per person and weekday departures from USD 220.

Labuan Bajo, on the western tip of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, is the departure port for Komodo National Park cruises. This page is for travellers already in town or holding a ticket into Komodo Airport (LBJ). It covers which formats leave from here, what they cost, how pickup works and how not to miss the boat.

Komodo Cruise is the cruise desk operated by Komodo Luxury, a Labuan Bajo operator founded in 2015. Its reservations team handles every booking directly.

Which Komodo cruises leave from Labuan Bajo, and what do they cost?

Every format below departs from the Labuan Bajo harbour area. Figures come from Komodo Luxury’s published pages, checked September 2026, and change with season, vessel and cabin.

Format Duration Sharing Starting price (as of Sept 2026) Pickup
Speedboat day trip 1 day Shared or private USD 90 per person shared; USD 800 per boat private 06:00–06:30, check-in 06:30–07:00
Sunset cruise Late afternoon to dusk Private On request via the desk Confirmed at booking
2D1N cruise 2 days, 1 night Private (open trip on request) Per vessel, e.g. Malca Voyages USD 5,300 for 1–12 guests Confirmed at booking
Weekday open trip 3 days, 2 nights, Mon–Wed Shared cabin USD 220 per person 08:00, hotel or airport
3D2N open trip 3 days, 2 nights, Mon–Wed and Fri–Sun Shared cabin USD 300 per person (range USD 300–850) 09:00; 08:00–09:00 on some boats
4D3N cruise 4 days, 3 nights Selected shared departures or private Per vessel, e.g. Riley IDR 87,500,000 for 1–8 guests Confirmed at booking

A few rules sit behind that table:

  • Shared cabins exist only on the 3D2N open trip, with roughly 8 to 22 fellow guests depending on the boat.
  • Private prices are per vessel, never per person. Le Costa’s 3D2N, for example, is listed at IDR 170,000,000 for 1–14 guests, plus IDR 3,000,000 per extra guest.
  • The park fee is extra. Komodo Luxury currently guides USD 40–50 per person, paid once per trip.
  • Season matters. Boats sail year-round, but most open-trip departures cluster in the April–November dry season. December–March brings more weather-related changes.

See the full cabin grid on the Komodo Open Trip 3D2N page, or the private trip options if you want the whole boat.

How long does it take to get from Komodo Airport to the boat?

About 10 to 15 minutes by road. Komodo Airport sits on the edge of Labuan Bajo town, so the land leg is the shortest part of your trip.

On Komodo Luxury open trips, pickup from your hotel or the airport to the meeting point is included. The terms add one limit: it covers only the Labuan Bajo mainland area near the harbour. Hotels on other islands or in the Manjaga area are outside the zone, so guests staying there make their own way to the meeting point.

Coming from Bali, the Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo flight takes roughly 1.5 hours, according to Komodo Luxury. It is a domestic hop with no extra paperwork beyond your Indonesia entry.

Where do the boats board, and what time is check-in?

Boats board from the Labuan Bajo harbour area, but the exact meeting point depends on your vessel. The desk sends it by WhatsApp along with your confirmation and pickup time. Wait for that message rather than walking the waterfront looking for your boat.

Published start times, per Komodo Luxury’s itineraries as of September 2026:

  • Speedboat day trip: minivan pickup 06:00–06:30, check-in 06:30–07:00, leaving for Padar Island between 07:00 and 08:00.
  • Weekday open trip: pickup 08:00, first stop Sebayur Island around 10:00.
  • Standard 3D2N open trip: pickup 09:00, sailing to Kelor Island at 10:00. Guests on Malca Voyages, Ayvara and Catnazse Phinisi are collected between 08:00 and 09:00.
  • Return: the 3D2N itinerary is back in Labuan Bajo by about 12:00 on Day 3, weather permitting.

Those early starts have a reason. A park-wide cap of about 1,000 visitors a day was reported as enforced from 1 April 2026, with timed entry sessions of roughly 05:00–08:00, 08:00–11:00 and 15:00–18:00. One late guest can cost a whole boat its slot.

Should you stay in Labuan Bajo the night before your cruise?

Yes, for any multi-day format. Komodo Luxury recommends booking a Labuan Bajo hotel the night before so you make the Day 1 pickup. The reasons are practical:

  1. Flight delays. An 08:00 or 09:00 pickup leaves no margin for a late morning arrival.
  2. Manifests. Park entry now relies on digital pre-registration with passport details through operator manifests. Walk-in entry is not reliable.
  3. Fixed sailing windows. The Labuan Bajo harbourmaster (KSOP) reportedly restricted tourist-vessel movement after dark in high-risk park zones from 10 January 2026, so boats must reach anchorages before nightfall and cannot wait for stragglers.

Choose a hotel inside the mainland pickup zone near the harbour and keep its name handy when you book. Komodo Luxury’s guide to hotels near Komodo Airport is a sensible shortlist. If you would rather have the room arranged too, ask the desk for a tour-with-hotel bundle, which pairs the open trip with Labuan Bajo hotel nights.

For the flight home, the midday return on Day 3 makes an afternoon departure workable. Leave a few hours of buffer in case sea conditions slow the last leg.

How does booking a Komodo cruise from Labuan Bajo work?

  1. Message the desk on WhatsApp with travel dates, guest count and your hotel name or LBJ arrival flight.
  2. Choose the format. Shared cabin on the 3D2N or weekday open trip, a day trip, or a whole-boat charter such as Malca Voyages or Riley.
  3. Pay the 50% down payment to hold the cabin or vessel.
  4. Settle the balance no later than 14 days before departure. Under Komodo Luxury’s published terms, payment made at that point is non-refundable and non-changeable.
  5. Receive your pickup details. Confirmation, itinerary, meeting point and pickup time arrive by email and WhatsApp.

Park fees, crew tips and alcohol are paid separately. No operator can guarantee dragon or manta sightings, calm seas or an unchanged route; the itinerary follows weather and park conditions on the day.

> Send your hotel name, get your pickup slot. Message the Komodo Luxury reservations team with your dates, number of guests and where you are staying in Labuan Bajo. They will confirm open cabins or available boats, the meeting point and your pickup time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is the Labuan Bajo harbour from Komodo Airport?

About 10 to 15 minutes by road. Komodo Airport (LBJ) sits at the edge of town, close to the harbour area where cruises board. On Komodo Luxury open trips, pickup from the airport or your hotel to the meeting point is included within the Labuan Bajo mainland area; hotels in Manjaga or on other islands are excluded.

What time do Komodo cruises leave Labuan Bajo?

It depends on the format. According to Komodo Luxury’s September 2026 itineraries, speedboat day trips pick up at 06:00–06:30, the weekday open trip at 08:00 and the standard 3D2N open trip at 09:00, with some boats collecting between 08:00 and 09:00. The desk confirms your exact slot by WhatsApp.

Can I fly in from Bali on the morning my Komodo cruise departs?

Possible, but risky. The Denpasar to Labuan Bajo flight takes about 1.5 hours, yet one delay can mean missing an 08:00 or 09:00 pickup, and park entry runs on manifests and timed sessions. Komodo Luxury recommends arriving the day before and staying at a Labuan Bajo hotel inside the pickup zone.

What time does a 3D2N cruise get back to Labuan Bajo?

Around midday. Komodo Luxury’s standard 3D2N open trip finishes with breakfast and snorkelling at Sebayur Island on Day 3, then returns to Labuan Bajo by about 12:00, weather permitting. An afternoon flight out is workable, but leave a few hours of buffer in case sea conditions slow the return.
