Komodo National Park Cruise Guide 2026: Formats & Prices

Komodo National Park Cruise Guide 2026: Formats & Prices

A Komodo National Park cruise is a day or multi-day sailing trip from Labuan Bajo, Flores, aboard a wooden phinisi or a modern yacht. It links Padar Island’s viewpoint, Komodo dragons on Komodo or Rinca, Pink Beach and Manta Point. As of 2026, Komodo Luxury’s shared 3D2N open trip starts from USD 300 per person.

Komodo Cruise is the cruise desk operated by Komodo Luxury, which was founded in Labuan Bajo in 2015. Its reservations team handles bookings directly. Every figure below is dated and may change, and the desk’s written quote is the final price.

What is a Komodo National Park cruise, exactly?

Boats leave Labuan Bajo, the town that serves as the gateway to the park. It is served by Komodo Airport (LBJ). On multi-day trips you sleep on the boat at anchor. Day and sunset guests are back in town the same evening. Most itineraries are built around the same stops:

  • Padar Island for the ridge hike and the three-bay view
  • Komodo Island (Loh Liang) or Rinca (Loh Buaya) for a dragon walk led by a ranger
  • Pink Beach for snorkelling off the pink sand
  • Manta Point for drift snorkelling, where mantas are often seen but never promised
  • Longer trips add sites such as Taka Makassar and Kanawa, plus Kalong Island at dusk

What cruise formats exist: share, private or luxury?

The main decision is whether you book one cabin or the whole boat. Private charters are priced per boat, not per person.

  • 2D1N: one night at anchor. See the 2 days 1 night Komodo cruise.
  • 3D2N: the best balance for most guests, and the only length with shared cabins. Komodo Luxury’s fixed route covers Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island and Manta Point. Details are on the Komodo cruise 3 days 2 nights page.
  • 4D3N: more reefs and islands at a slower pace. Read the 4 days 3 nights Komodo cruise.

When is the best time for a Komodo National Park cruise?

Cruises run all year, but most open-trip departures fall in the dry season, April to November. Komodo Luxury advertises weekly departures for 2026–2027.

Months Season Typical sea and weather Trade-off
December–February Wet More rain and schedule changes Keep flights flexible
March End of wet season Still changeable Check the departure again close to the date
April–June Early dry Seas usually settling More open-trip departures
July–August Dry Generally calmer Popular holiday period; book early
September–October Dry Generally calmer Book cabins and park sessions early
November End of dry season Conditions start to vary Ask what happens if the weather turns

No month guarantees calm water, clear visibility or seeing mantas.

How do you get to Labuan Bajo from Bali?

Fly from Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) and arrive the day before you board. A shared boat will not wait for a delayed flight. Komodo Luxury also sells “tour with hotel” packages that combine an open trip with hotel nights in Labuan Bajo. Travel options are on the Komodo cruise from Bali page.

What park rules apply in 2026?

These rules are as reported in 2026. Check the latest with the desk before you travel.

  • Park fee: USD 40–50 per person according to Komodo Luxury, paid once per trip.
  • Visitor cap: a limit of about 1,000 visitors per day across the park was reported. It was trialled January–March 2026 and enforced from 1 April 2026.
  • Timed sessions: entry reportedly runs in slots of roughly 05:00–08:00, 08:00–11:00 and 15:00–18:00.
  • Online registration in advance: operators add your passport details to their guest lists before the trip. You cannot count on getting in without registering.
  • Daylight sailing: the Labuan Bajo harbourmaster (KSOP) reportedly banned tourist boats from moving after dark in high-risk parts of the park from 10 January 2026. Boats now reach their overnight spots before dark.

What should you pack, and is it safe for kids and seniors?

Pack: shoes with good grip for Padar’s steep steps, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, a light long-sleeved top, a dry bag, seasickness tablets, your own medication and your passport.

Safety: rangers lead the dragon walks, so stay with the group. Currents at Manta Point can be strong. Snorkel with the guide, and wear a life jacket if you are not a strong swimmer. Once at sea, medical help is far away.

Kids and seniors: on a private charter you can skip the Padar climb without holding up other guests. Tell the desk the ages of your group and any mobility needs before they suggest a boat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do a Komodo National Park cruise in the wet season?

Yes. Cruises run all year, but December to March brings more rain and more changes because of weather, such as swapped stops or moved departure dates. Book flexible flights, arrive a day early, and ask the desk in writing what happens if the weather causes problems before you pay. No operator can guarantee sea conditions in any month.

Can one Komodo National Park cruise visit both Komodo and Rinca?

Most cruises include one dragon stop: Loh Liang on Komodo Island or Loh Buaya on Rinca. Komodo Luxury’s fixed 3D2N open trip goes to Komodo Island. On a private 3D2N or 4D3N charter you can ask for both, depending on the entry slots and registration rules reported for 2026. The desk will tell you what is possible on your dates.

Is it safe to walk near Komodo dragons on a park cruise?

Park rangers lead the dragon walks on Komodo and Rinca and decide the route and how close you get. Stay with the group, never approach or feed a dragon, and tell the ranger if you have an open wound. You are never guaranteed to see a dragon. Children should stay within arm’s reach the whole time.

Should I book flights before or after confirming a Komodo National Park cruise?

Confirm the cruise first. Shared cabins are only sold on the 3D2N open trip, departures run on set days, and park entry in 2026 is reportedly limited by a daily cap and timed slots. Once the desk confirms your cabin or charter in writing, book flights from Denpasar to Labuan Bajo that land the day before you board.
