Komodo cruise share trip: one cabin, not the whole boat

You book a cabin and share the deck, meals, guide and route with the other guests on your departure. Vessel and cabin grade set the final price.

Ask which cabins are open

The short version

Komodo Luxury quotes its 3D2N open trip and its weekday open trip on request, for your dates, vessel, cabin grade and guest count. Your cabin is yours for the whole trip; everything outside the cabin door is shared.

  • Sold by the cabin, so a solo traveller or a couple can join without chartering a boat
  • Price moves with the vessel, the cabin grade and the departure day
  • Route and departure day are fixed by the operator, not by guests
  • Park fee, drinks beyond water and tea, gratuities and flights sit outside the cabin price

What you actually share

Less than most people expect. The cabin belongs to your booking party for the whole trip.

Komodo Cruise is the desk operated by Komodo Luxury, a Labuan Bajo operator. A shared cabin is its per-person way into the same waters private charter guests sail.

Plate II

Which cabin grades you can book

Cabin names change from boat to boat, so there is no single price ladder across the fleet. Most shared cabins fall into four recognisable types.

Quad room with bunk berths aboard Malca Voyages

Triple and quad rooms

Three or four sharing one room. Usually the lowest per-person price on a given boat.

Friends and families

Double room aboard Malca Voyages

Double rooms

The standard choice for two, and the grade most boats sell most of.

Couples

Ocean-view grades

Windows or a sea-facing position, at a step up from the standard double.

Master Ocean View cabin aboard Malca Voyages

Master cabins

The top room on the boats that have one. Space and position, priced accordingly.

Top grade

One vessel, six grades: Malca Voyages

Malca Voyages shows how wide the gap can be on a single boat. Its vessel page lists these grades for the 3D2N open trip, each quoted on request.

One vessel, six grades: Malca Voyages
Cabin (3D2N open trip) Rate
Master Ocean View cabin aboard Malca Voyages Master Ocean View Quote on request

Superior Ocean View cabin with a window onto the water Superior Ocean View Quote on request
Double room aboard Malca Voyages Double Room 1 & 2 Quote on request
Quad room with bunk berths aboard Malca Voyages Quad Room Ocean View Quote on request
Triple cabin aboard Malca Voyages Triple Room Quote on request

This ladder belongs to Malca Voyages alone. Other vessels price their cabins on their own rate cards, and some top grades elsewhere cost more than Malca's Master Ocean View.

Plate III

What sets the price

Three things move the number: the vessel, the cabin grade and the day you sail. Then there are the items that sit outside the cabin price.

Scroll the table sideways for every column

What sets the price
Item As of Sep 2026 Source and notes
3D2N open trip, share cabin Quote on request KL open-trip page, lowest cabin grade
Weekday open trip Quote on request Weekday departures only
Malca Voyages 3D2N cabins Quote on request Malca Voyages vessel page
Komodo National Park fee Not in the cabin price Paid separately; confirm the current fee
Drinks beyond water, tea, coffee Extra Listed as an exclusion
Crew gratuities Extra Optional
Flights to Labuan Bajo Not included Booked separately

Weekday departures are worth asking about, and splitting a triple or quad is the next lever. On Malca Voyages, moving from the Triple Room up to the Master Ocean View raises the per-person cost for the same days on the water.

Plate IV

How many other guests

Komodo Luxury publishes a maximum guest count and cabin count per vessel, not a typical head count per departure. These are ceilings.

Ayvara Cruises
7 cabins
15 guests max
Vinca Voyages
6 cabins
14–18 guests max
Elbark Cruises
9 cabins
21 guests max
Malca Voyages
7 cabins
21 guests max

A departure with half its cabins sold carries far fewer people. The cabin plan shapes the mix too: boats with several triples and quads fill with friend groups and families, while boats built around doubles lean towards couples.

Ask these before you pay

The desk sees the booking sheet; you do not. These five questions get useful answers.

  1. How many cabins are already booked on this departure?
  2. Which cabin grades are still open, and at what price?
  3. Is one large group taking several cabins on the same date?
  4. How is a single-occupancy booking priced on this vessel?
  5. What bathroom setup does my cabin grade have?

A quieter trip usually means a smaller vessel, or a date with fewer cabins sold.

Plate V

When a private charter beats sharing

Private charters are priced per vessel, never per person, so the comparison only works one boat at a time. Ask the desk to put the private rate for your group beside the shared cabin prices on the same boat and date.

Sharing tends to fit when

  • The standard 3D2N schedule already suits your dates
  • You are a couple, a solo guest or a small group and want per-person pricing
  • You enjoy meeting other travellers over meals

A private charter tends to fit when

  • You are on a honeymoon, or simply want the boat to yourselves
  • You need your own departure day, a different length or a custom route
  • Divers or photographers want control over time at each stop
  • Your group is large enough that the per-head private cost nears the cabin prices

How to book a shared cabin

Five steps, all of them through the Komodo Luxury reservations team. Nothing is charged on this site.

  1. Send your dates

Dates, guest count and preferred cabin grade, by WhatsApp or email.

  2. Review what is open

The desk lists the vessels and the cabins still available for those dates.

  3. Pick vessel and cabin

Then ask the five questions above before you commit.

  4. Share passport details

Requested when the booking is confirmed. Park entry rules can change, so check them for your travel date.

  5. Confirm fee and extras

Park fee, drinks and gratuities, so the final cost is clear before you pay.

Booking and payment both go through Komodo Luxury. Komodo Cruise adds no fee.
